To unlock these downloadable new characters, you have to either meet their unlock requirements or for some buy the Season Pass and download each of the five characters once they are made available. The first DLC character (adding up to make the fighting game’s total: 77 characters) will be available after the game’s launch in January 2019. This set is priced at $25 extra (or $6 for each individual DLC character) on top of the base game on the Switch eShop. And the Super Smash Bros Ultimate characters select screen has room for plenty of unique bonus characters from the upcoming Season Pass called the Fighters Pass.ĭeveloper Nintendo has confirmed at least 6 more - other than the out-of-the-gate playable 76 characters - will be made available in Super Smash Bros Ultimate as a set through paid downloadable content titled “Super Smash Bros Ultimate Fighters Pass”, which also comes with the “Super Smash Bros Ultimate Deluxe Edition” to get the first 5 DLC characters like Joker from Persona 5 (excluding the pre-order bonus character Piranha Plant) in 2019-2020. 
On top of this there will be 5 paid DLC characters, as well as 1 pre-order bonus character that will become paid DLC if you missed out on it.
The initial roster available from the get-go is the 8 starter characters from the N64 original SSB, once you unlock the other 68 it brings the total in the main game to 74 characters.
